Iowa Northern Railway Deal Demonstrates the Power of Wabtec’s Combined Digital and Electronics Portfolio

WILMERDING, Pa., June 26, 2019  Wabtec Corporation (NYSE: WAB) was selected to provide fully integrated Positive Train Control (PTC), digital imaging, and data transfer and analytics capabilities for Iowa Northern Railway Company, marking Wabtec’s first such deal since closing its merger with GE Transportation. Under the contract, Wabtec will provide an integrated offering, including its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System (I-ETMS®) PTC safety-overlay solution, LDRS-V video recorder, training, and system integration services across Iowa Northern Railway’s entire locomotive fleet.

“Iowa Northern Railway Company is preparing to deliver PTC operations for two Class 1 railroads under a stringent timeline,” said William L. Magee, general manager at Iowa Northern Railway Company. “Having a one-stop-shop for the various components of PTC implementation is an important factor for us and Wabtec has delivered with a turnkey installation and operating plan provided under one roof.”

The combined solution brings best-in-class digital equipment, software, and services together in one integrated suite that leverages common platforms to drive interoperability. As one example, integrating the WabtecONE® cloud-based monitoring and analytics platform with the GoLINC™ mobile data center platform and EdgeLINC™ edge to cloud device connectivity enables seamless data transfer for real-time analytics on condition-based monitoring. The suite also incorporates the PTC communications and data hosting back-office, which drives a more robust communications capability for improved availability and coverage with a reduced number of devices.

“This deal represents an exciting milestone for Wabtec as we combine GE Transportation’s digital and analytics solutions with Wabtec’s electronic systems and PTC offerings,” said Rajendra Jadhav, President, Wabtec Electronics. “We’re honored to support Iowa Northern Railway with a new offering that integrates the leading capabilities of both companies and advances productive synergies for a digital rail future.”

Implementation is expected to be completed by late 2020.
