Dozer incidents happen more often than desirable with a fatal incident in Queensland (Australia) in 2018 spurring the need to address the risks associated with the dozer operations.

Two methods to approach this safety opportunity is through the application of remote control technologies and/or onboard edge detection systems.  This paper highlights the journey involved with the latter.

As with all new technology advancements, challenges are uncounted along the way, however, a successful implementation process that covers technical, adaptation and adoption topics is demonstrated in this paper.
