Wabtec’s Vapor Stone Rail Systems Celebrates Site Expansion

PLATTSBURGH, NY – September 12, 2019: Wabtec Corporation’s Vapor Stone Rail Systems celebrated its continued investment in Plattsburgh with the grand opening of its plant on Arizona Ave. The new 60,000-sq-ft facility, which is the company’s second plant adjacent to the Plattsburgh International Airport, supports the company’s continued growth by increasing its manufacturing capabilities and adding warehouse space.

“We are proud to be opening this new plant, which will allow us to expand our capabilities as a leading provider of door systems, HVAC and converters to the North American rail market and bring significant new job opportunities to the local community,” said Lilian Leroux, Wabtec’s Transit President. “Along with an improved working environment for our employees, this new state-of-the-art facility will significantly help us reduce our environmental impact and reflects our constant commitment to greater responsibility and sustainability.”

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by executives from Vapor Stone Rail Systems, North Country Chamber of Commerce President Garry Douglas and other local dignitaries. It commemorated a major step in the Plattsburgh International Airport upgrade project, a public-private partnership between the New York State Department of Transportation and the Plattsburgh-based Development Corporation.

"Wabtec and its Vapor Stone division were among the first transportation equipment companies to establish operations here more than 20 years ago, helping to launch a cluster strategy that now has more than 50 manufacturers in the region," said Douglas. "They have been, and continue to be, an active and committed part of the community. This investment positions the Plattsburgh operation for continued success, and further builds our status as a growing hub for international transportation equipment production. We greatly appreciate the support of Wabtec, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senator Betty Little, Assemblyman Billy Jones, the Empire State Development, the Development Corporation, and Clinton County in helping position Plattsburgh for growth.”

Wabtec invested nearly $2.5 million in machinery, relocation expenses and employee training for the new plant. It adds onto the company’s existing footprint in Plattsburgh, which also continues to operate a 70,000-sq-ft manufacturing facility across the street.

Wabtec’s Vapor Stone Rail Systems is an industry leader in the design, development, manufacturing and distribution of HVAC, converters, and doors systems for commuter and passenger trains. To date, the company has produced more than 200,000 train and metro doors utilized in public transportation worldwide.
