The Grievance Process is Working

Team,

A grievance with a former Wabtec employee, who was terminated for disciplinary reasons, was recently resolved through arbitration. Through the arbitration and grievance process, it became clear that we could have made a better decision in this case. We didn’t get this one right and we’ll be honoring the arbitrator’s decision.

This outcome is an example of the grievance process working the way it’s supposed to. Arbitration doesn’t just work when the company wins — it also works when employees win and the company learns to serve them better. While the facts and circumstances of every case are different, and not every grievance will end like this, we’re confident that this is the best way to resolve issues between employees and the company.

My team and I are committed to doing the right thing for employees and continuing to learn.

Best,

Joe Cavalier
